Goal Tending

writing

Long before seriously focusing on my writing, I found it very difficult to tell others about it. I often kept it to myself never wanting to subject something so personal to the ridicule of others. As I became more serious about pursuing it,I found that I began to share my writing process with others. I didn’t always share my writing, but I at least shared my interest in it and details about current projects.

What got me over the fear was the built-in accountability that comes with sharing your goals with others. If you tell people about something that holds meaning for you, they inevitably will ask you about it to check your progress and as a way to connect. For me it was a form of accountability. I didn’t want to have to tell people that I was no farther along than the last time they asked. Sometimes no progress is just fine but consistent lack of progress brings your commitment to the goal into question.

So whether your goal is to finish that writing project or finish painting the garage, tell someone about it. It may be the shot in the arm you need to get it done.
