Freelancers and telecommuters require many resources to be successful.  Aside from the general office equipment, I use a variety of websites to obtain clients and projects. With the onslaught of Internet employment opportunities many are looking to assist freelancers by providing leads on websites and blogs.

Those, who are more outgoing or more seasoned, will say that you should never have to pay to get work; the idea is to make money not spend money. This mantra may be true if your only concept of work is the traditional exchange of time for money. It may also be true for those who think that business is only an exchange of goods and services. However, when you step away from the employee mentality and embrace that which is the business owner mentality, you realize that there is always a price to be paid for your most prized resources and the reward is convenience and efficiency.

Such is the case with FlexJobs.com. First off, how I came across the benefits of FlexJobs is unusual.  FlexJobs was seeking a freelancer for a short term project. I submitted my proposal which involved a writing sample. While the project may not have been the best use of my expertise, the owner recognized my value in other areas and I recognized the value of FlexJobs to provide freelancers and telecommuters not just with access to fresh job and project leads, but the reassurance that these employers were legitimate.  A few short email exchanges landed me the opportunity to test-drive FlexJobs, and all I had to do in return was provide honest feedback.

Being an entrepreneur as well as a freelance writer and teleworker, I saw this as an excellent opportunity for myself, my readers and FlexJobs as well.  The fact that CEO Sara Sutton Fell has put a lot of thought into what would set her site apart from other job boards is obvious upon launching the site and completing the profile. The site is well organized and the benefits to members such as the screened employer postings are worth the cost of entry alone. But Fell doesn’t stop there; without cluttering your email inbox, FlexJobs provides screened employment opportunities across industries regardless of the type of telecommuting arrangement you are seeking.  The site provides articles, easy category navigation, company profiles and access to a variety freelance and telework jobs. I especially liked that FlexJobs doesn’t just provide sloppy summarized postings, but accurate and current postings which provide contact information and the means to view the original posting where applicable plus the capability to forward the postings to colleagues.

I know what you’re thinking—no resource is perfect. True, you may find some employment opportunities on Flexjobs that are posted elsewhere free of charge; however, with Flexjobs you will have the benefit of screened employers and the ability to post your resume. CEO Sara Sutton Fell and FlexJobs take the employment want ad for teleworkers and freelancers to the next level.  Visit FlexJobs.com to see where FlexJobs fits in your employment search arsenal.
