Culture of Spirituality: Frank Hanna
By LMReviews on Jan 19, 2009 in Multicultural Writing, Writing/Freelancing
We are well aware of the cultural aspects of religion. Religious beliefs, religious loyalty and interpretation of religion have been the crux of our dealings with other nations for centuries. As such, writers do their work and their readers a disservice by not exploring the spiritual aspects of their characters. If we are creating multi-dimensional characters, we cannot ignore their spiritual life. No matter how we choose to depict it or how we feel about spirituality personally, it exists in all of us. If we want to create believable characters then it exists in their lives as well and can be reflected without casting judgment.
Frank Hanna, an Atlanta entrepreneur, corporate attorney and advocate for business philanthropy, is an excellent example. Frank Hanna incorporates business with philanthropy and education in the release of his book, What Your Money Means. Also, he’s participated in the formation of three new Catholic Schools in Atlanta. Frank Hanna served as the co-chair of the President’s Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans during the administration of George W. Bush.
Writers can take this example and learn to weave the complex facets of a life that might otherwise appear not to blend to create characters with profound richness.
