Author Marketing Essentials III

For many writers, it would be highly suitable to be left to churn out high quality books and leave the marketing to publishers and the publicity professionals. However, when readers partake of an emotionally provoking piece of prose, it is only natural to want to show appreciation and gain further understanding of the fine wordsmith responsible for entertaining or enlightening their life. After all they have not only spent their hard-earned money on the book, they have also spent their time–both of which are not always available in large quantities.

Thanks to the Internet, interviews and book tours are not restricted to those who top the bestsellers’ list. At a fraction of the cost and in some cases completely free, websites like Blog Talk Radio and Black Authors Network, provide writers, veterans and newbies alike, a chance to connect with potential and existing readers. Thousands of books are released during the year, and garnering Internet publicity is just one way to attract attention for your work. Sometimes book signings provide minimal response, but virtual book tours and Internet podcast interviews, continue to market your work long after the events are over. It is a definite win for all involved. Bloggers get dynamic content for their website, Internet radio hosts get compelling guests for their shows, authors get the attention their books need and readers get exposure to the authors they love.

Check back for the continuation of this article where we discuss how to prepare for an Internet interview or virtual book tour.
